Importing FAQs and Troubleshooting

I am looking for ZIP files, but I only received IMSCC files.

Our content used to be provided in ZIP files, but the IMSCC files import to your LMS in exactly the same way. Please follow the same procedure with the IMSCC files that you did with ZIP files.

I can’t open the IMSCC file.

This file is not meant to be opened on your computer. It contains only computer-readable code, and will only work by importing it to your LMS.

When I click the file to download, my computer tries to open it.

This is due to a setting in your browser. Check your settings or preferences, or right-click the link and select “save target as” (or whatever similar phrasing your browser uses). It may also be the case that your computer did download it, and you have a setting that automatically opens the file after download. Check to see if the file is already in your downloads.

I integrated my content, and it appears to have gone correctly, but I can’t find it in my course. (or I am looking for a Root folder, but I don’t see one.)

Not all cartridges produce a root folder. If you don’t see one, you will likely find a new content area with the name of your imported lab (if importing singly) or course (if importing a cartridge kit). Within that area, you will find a folder entitled 0. Open this folder by clicking on its name (0) and you can find the labs inside.

Look for a new module named “0”. It will come after any existing modules in your course. The content will be in the form of a link that opens an embedded page in your LMS.

I can’t open the 0 folder. What’s going on?

Try clicking precisely on its name (0). Clicking on the folder icon doesn’t work.

The cartridge creates a link to a site that we host. Blackboard may automatically add any links from your course into a Weblinks content area. It is a duplicate, and may be safely hidden or deleted if you wish.

Why did my course name change?

In some versions of Blackboard, importing content will change the name of the course. If you notice this, finish importing the content. Then, go to “Customization” in the Control Panel. Click “Properties.” Here you will find an option for changing the name of your course.

*Note: If you do not see this option, it is probably disabled for instructors. Contact your Blackboard admin to make the name change for you.

Why did my course entry point change? (Course entry point is the area that first appears when your course loads)

In some versions of Blackboard, the course entry point will be automatically changed to the new content. If you notice this, first finish importing the content. Then go to “Customization” in the Control Panel. Click “Teaching Style.” Here you will find an option for choosing the Course Entry Point.
